The Production Process

Drawing water from the nearby River Teith, Deanston ensures a steady supply of pristine water to fuel its operations. Thanks to a modern turbine installed in 2010, the distillery not only powers its production but also generates surplus electricity for the national grid—an impressive feat of sustainability.

Maturation Magic in the Warehouse


The journey of Deanston whisky doesn't end at the stills. In the distillery's vast warehouses, a treasure trove of casks awaits, each imparting its unique flavour profile to the ageing spirit. With around 24,000 barrels housed within its brick walls, Deanston's warehouses provide the perfect environment for slow, steady maturation. Formerly cotton warehouses, these cool, climate-controlled spaces ensure that each whisky matures gracefully, free from drastic temperature fluctuations.

Before its whisky-making days, Deanston was a bustling cotton mill, powered by water wheels from the River Teith. Founded in 1785, the mill operated until 1965 when it underwent a remarkable transformation into a distillery. Today, the distillery stands as a testament to this storied past, with many of the original buildings repurposed as warehouses and production facilities.
